ANDREWS, VICTOR

Victor (Vic) Andrews (1922–2014) was a South African artist famous for his paintings of African wildlife. He started his career in commercial art and cartooning, working for advertising agencies in Johannesburg. Later, he shifted his focus to painting, beginning with landscapes and seascapes in areas like the Transkei, Ciskei, and Natal.

Andrews developed a strong love for African animals, which became the main focus of his art. He traveled across Southern Africa, visiting places like Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Botswana, to capture the beauty of the wildlife and wilderness. His oil and pastel paintings are known for their detail and emotional connection, showing the spirit and majesty of the African bush.

In 1985, Andrews and his wife, Dulcie, moved to Montagu in the Western Cape. There, he continued painting, adding local landscapes and the colorful Namaqualand flowers to his work.

Victor Andrews passed away in December 2014 at the age of 92. His paintings remain admired for their beauty and their ability to inspire a love for African wildlife and nature.
