BLOM, 'WIM' WILLEM ADRIAAN

Willem Adriaan "Wim" Blom (1927–2021) was a South African-born artist recognized for his contributions to post-war and contemporary art. Born in Germiston, Blom studied fine arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, later pursuing postgraduate studies in Edinburgh and Perugia. His career included teaching roles at the University of the Witwatersrand and the Johannesburg School of Art. In 1959, he emigrated to Canada, where he became the curator of the National Gallery of Canada. His work is part of collections in the National Galleries of Canada and South Africa, as well as numerous private and corporate collections globally.

Blom's art is known for its precision and timeless quality, spanning styles from painterly abstraction to explorations of line and spatial qualities. His works, including still lifes and abstract compositions, exhibit a deep engagement with space and form, often reflecting a harmonious balance between structured lines and abstract expression.
