BOTHA, ANDRIES

Andries Botha (b. 1952, Pretoria, South Africa) is a prominent South African sculptor known for his large-scale public art installations and his commitment to social and environmental themes. Based in Durban, Botha’s work frequently explores complex intersections between culture, politics, and nature, reflecting on South Africa's socio-political landscape.

His use of diverse materials, including wood, stone, and found objects, has contributed to his distinctive style, which often incorporates symbolic animal figures, such as his iconic elephant sculptures. Botha is also a passionate advocate for environmental conservation and human rights, and many of his works engage with themes of sustainability and coexistence.

Botha has exhibited extensively both in South Africa and internationally, and his work is part of several prestigious collections. He is also the founder of the Human Elephant Foundation, which promotes conservation and ecological awareness through art.
