NAUDE, DANIEL

Daniel Naudé (b. 1984) was born in Cape Town, South Africa, where he continues to reside. He earned a BA Visual Arts Honours degree from Stellenbosch University in 2007. Naudé is best known for his striking photography, often exploring themes related to the natural world, particularly in his celebrated series on animals.

Naudé has held solo exhibitions at Stevenson Gallery in Cape Town and Johannesburg in 2010, 2011, and 2014. His work has been featured in prominent international group exhibitions, including In Focus: Animalia at the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (2015); Lyon Biennale (2015); and Apartheid and After at Huis Marseille, Amsterdam (2014). He has also participated in festivals like the Lagos Photo Festival in Nigeria and Bamako Encounters African Photography Biennial in Mali (2011).

His acclaimed first book Animal Farm was published in 2012 by Prestel, followed by Sightings of the Sacred: Cattle in India, Uganda, and Madagascar in 2016. Naudé has also engaged in artist residencies, including a notable residency at Anderson Ranch in Aspen, Colorado in 2011. His work continues to garner international attention for its meditative exploration of animals and their symbolic presence in different cultural contexts.
