NEL, KAREL

Karel Nel (b. 1955) is a prominent South African artist known for his deep engagement with history, the environment, and cosmology. His intricate drawings, sculptures, and installations explore themes of time, space, and the natural world, often incorporating scientific and cultural references. Nel's work has been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally, and his pieces are part of major public and private collections.

In addition to his artistic practice, Nel is involved with the Norval Foundation as a senior advisor, contributing his expertise to the curatorial team. He plays a key role in shaping the foundation's collection and exhibitions. Nel also taught at the University of the Witwatersrand for over 30 years, making a significant impact on art education in South Africa.
