Senzo Shabangu (b. 1985, Driefontein, Mpumalanga) is a South African visual artist renowned for his striking printmaking, painting, and drawing. After moving to Johannesburg in 2006 to pursue his passion for art, Shabangu enrolled at the Artist Proof Studio, where he honed his printmaking skills and developed a distinctive artistic voice. His work reflects his experiences as a migrant in the bustling urban landscape, often exploring themes of displacement, identity, and the complex dynamics of city life.
Shabangu’s art is characterised by bold lines, dynamic compositions, and a strong narrative quality that delves into the tensions between rural and urban existence. He has exhibited widely across South Africa and internationally, earning recognition for his powerful depictions of social and political issues. Shabangu’s works are part of prominent collections, including the Johannesburg Art Gallery and the South African National Gallery. As an artist, he continues to push boundaries, using his platform to highlight the struggles and resilience of ordinary South Africans.
