XABA, NHLANHLA ARTHUR

Nhlanhla Arthur Xaba (1960 - 2003) was a South African artist known for his impactful contributions to painting and printmaking. Born in Payneville, Springs, he studied Fine Art through UNISA and the African Institute of Art in Johannesburg, specializing in Child Art Education. Xaba co-founded the Artist Proof Studio, where he serves as Assistant Director, nurturing emerging artists and printmakers​

His artwork often explores themes related to life in rural South Africa, reflecting the political and economic challenges faced by communities. He aims to convey not only the hardships but also the deeply personal feelings surrounding these issues. Xaba has participated in numerous exhibitions both in South Africa and internationally, receiving accolades such as the Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 1998​.

Xaba’s teaching roles in community projects and institutions like Funda Community College demonstrate his commitment to art education and mentorship, further enhancing his impact on the South African art scene.
