This artwork is about the power of influence. "N'akhane" is isiZulu for "Build each other". The artist is commenting on the importance of choosing your friends wisely and how teenagers find ways to relate to one another despite differences of background, religion or financial status.
The white paper released by the department of Social Services noted that teenagers need the support of their friends and family as they need constant reassurance to build their confidence and social skills. The artwork also speaks to community development.
